Algernon Tallant is the son of Sir John Tallant and the late Lady Tallant. He is the younger brother of Thomas Tallant. Currently he is stationed in Belgium with the ---th Regiment, and his father thinks that his aunt and uncle should make a soldier of his cousin Bertram like Sir John did with his "young rascal".
Henry and Sophia Tallant discuss his and his brother's marriage prospects, concluding that they should not like him to marry one of their daughters (though they wish him nothing but good) and that his father would want him to marry an heiress. It is unknown whether he is attracted to his cousin Arabella like his brother Tom is.
